Leave Afghanistan NOW!

Quote of the Day: "We will never be able to secure and police every town and village in Afghanistan. Nor will we be able to build Afghanistan from the ground up into a Western-style democracy." -- a letter to President Obama from 27 Senators
More members of Congress are starting to agree that we should leave Afghanistan.Let's encourage them.
That's why I sent the following letter to Congress, from which you can copy or borrow . . .
The President's plan to remove 33,000 troops from Afghanistan over 18 months is insufficient. We should remove all of our troops immediately.
We've met our objectives. As 27 Senators have pointed out http://1.usa.gov/lMhCIe  . . .
* Osama bin Laden is dead
* The country is no longer an Al Qaeda safe haven
* There are only 50 to 100 Al Qaeda members remaining there
Are there really other reasons to stay? Can we . . .
* police every community in Afghanistan?
* build it into a Western-style democracy?
Our continued presence will NOT make the U.S. safer. It will NOT improve Afghanistan's future. Instead, it will mean MORE . . .
* dead and wounded Americans
* radicalization among Afghans who resent our occupation
* of my tax dollars flushed by corrupt Afghan officials
* debt -- to the tune of $100 billion per year
This is why a partial withdrawal is insufficient. YOU can make the President bring ALL our troops home immediately.
* De-fund the war in this year's Defense Authorization bill
* Support bills such as Rep. Barbara Lee's H.R. 780, which would fund the withdrawalhttp://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c112:H.R.780:
Take these steps to end the war, and you will see an increase in your public support.
END LETTER
You can send your letter using DownsizeDC.org's Educate the Powerful System.
But before you do that, please take a moment to read the following update . . .
I reported last week that this will be a tough month for us financially. We need to raise $26,967 by the end of July. I'm please to report real progress. We're down to $21,494 needed.
Unless there's someone out there who wants to do the full amount, we've still got a bit of work to do. Any amount you can contribute will help.
But what helps the most, for the long term, is new monthly pledges. These assure constant progress, and reduce the need for these kinds of fundraising appeals. Best of all, you can start a pledge of any size. We have a bunch of people pledging $3, $5, or $8 per month, and just as many pledging $10, $12, $15 each month. In fact, we have several who pledge $50 per month, and even a few persons pledging more than $100 per month.
There's a level for everyone. And, your pledge is our budget.
Thank you very much for your support,
Jim Babka

Cut spending and Live within your means, just like average Americans

Quote of the Day: "History clearly shows the government that stimulates the best, taxes, spends, and intrudes the least. In particular, the lesson from 1945-47 is that a sharp reduction in government spending frees up assets for productive use and leads to renewed growth." - Economists Jason E. Taylor and Richard K. Vedder
On May 31, the House rejected President Obama's request to raise the debt limit with no spending cuts. In addition to every Republican, 46% of Democrats opposed this bill.
This demonstrates the power of polls, which shows even a substantial percentage of Democrats oppose raising the debt ceiling
* But it also demonstrate the power of your RELENTLESS PRESSURE on Congress
More and more Democrats realize the U.S. is on an unsustainable path and that reforms must be implemented NOW instead of putting them off any longer.

T.S.A. and the D.o.J must be put on their way OUT! of Texas and the U.S.

Quote of the Day: "It was bad enough when the TSA agents would go through your underwear in your luggage. Now they're going through your underwear while you're wearing it." –Jay Leno
The Texas House unanimously passed a bill holding Transportation Security Agency (TSA) agents accountable for touching people's private parts without probable cause. In response, the Department of Justice threatened to ground flights in Texas. DoJ's threat caused the bill to die in the Texas Senate.
It's possible the bill will be revived in a special legislative session. While we support the purposes of this bill, we believe the best solution is for Congress to just get rid of the TSA altogether.
That's why I sent the following letter to my Representative and Senators. We encourage you to send a letter as well, and you may borrow from or copy this .

More stimulus for jobs, Seriously though! you've got to be kidding!

By Lawrence H. Summers
The opinions expressed are his own.
Even with the massive 2008-2009 policy effort that successfully prevented financial collapse and Depression, the United States is now half way to a lost economic decade. Over the last 5 years, from the first quarter of 2006 to the first quarter of 2011, the U.S. economy’s growth rate averaged less than 1 percent a year, about like Japan during the period when its bubble burst. At the same time the fraction of the population working has fallen from 63.1 to 58.4 percent, reducing the number of those with jobs by more than 10 million. The fraction of the population working remains almost exactly at its recession trough and recent reports suggest that growth is slowing.
Beyond the lack of jobs and incomes, an economy producing below its potential for a prolonged interval sacrifices its future. To an extent that once would have been unimaginable, new college graduates are this month moving back in with their parents because they have no job or means of support. Strapped school districts across the country are cutting out advanced courses in math and science and in some cases only opening school 4 days a week. And reduced incomes and tax collections at present and in the future are the most important cause of unacceptable budget deficits at present and in the future.

Utah adopts the Ron Paul plan to lower gas prices.

Utah Adopts the Ron Paul Plan to Lower Gas Prices - And Other Costs
Posted by John Markley
You may copy this, or if you prefer, use this information to write a letter in your own words . . .
More and more Americans are losing faith in the Federal Reserve's control of the money supply, with good reason. Take gasoline as an example . . .
 * Gasoline prices would be 27 percent lower today if the dollar had held its value relative to the euro over the last decade.
To put that last point in clearer terms -- gas could and should be be less than $3 per gallon right now.

One Subject at a time Congress!

Quote of the Day: "True, it is evil that a single man should crush the herd, but see not there the worse form of slavery, which is when the herd crushes out the man." -- Antoine De Saintexupery (1900-1944) Source: Citadelle, 1948
We spent months revising and improving our three Downsize DC Agenda bills . . .

 * We showed you the new and improved "Read the Bills Act" about ten days ago
 * The new and improved "Write the Laws Act" will go up on our website in about a week
 * And the new and improved "One Subject at a Time Act" is available on our website TODAY
Meanwhile  . . .
 * We have interest about "One Subject" from new congressional offices
 * We're coordinating with our allies in the Susquehanna Valley Tea Party to get all of these bills introduced in Congress
 * And I'm planning a trip to Capitol Hill to meet with current pledged sponsors and potential NEW sponsors
But you have a role to play also . . .
Now that we have our updated "One Subject" campaign in place, we need you to hit Congress once again, asking them to introduce and pass our legislation.
You can send your letter to Congress here https://secure.downsizedc.org/etp/campaigns/83
We provide the following part of the letter for you . . .
Please introduce DownsizeDC.org's "One Subject at a Time Act" (OSTA). You can find the text of the legislation here: http://www.downsizedc.org/osta-legislation
I added the following personal comments to this, which you can borrow if you wish . . .
Please let me hear from you. I want to hear if you will or will not introduce this legislation. Here's why it means so much to me . . .
Congressional leaders routinely enact unpopular laws by combining them with unrelated legislation that's sure to pass. I'm NOT happy about this.
I consider it legislation without representation.
You CANNOT be said to have truly represented me whenever you vote on packaged bills containing multiple subjects.
You can ONLY be said to have represented me when each proposal stands or falls ENTIRELY ON ITS OWN MERITS.
No Congressional rule or promise can deliver this outcome, because Congress routinely ignores its own rules. So I want a law. I want DownsizeDC.org's "One Subject at a Time Act."
END LETTER
Then, please consider doing two other things . . .
 * Make a contribution to help fund my trip to Congress
 * Ask people you know to send letters to Congress supporting "One Subject"
Here's where we currently stand . . .
Congress has received 73,957 letters on behalf of "One Subject" from DC Downsizers. This is huge, but it still represents only a fraction of the potential. Here's the startling thing . . .
You don't have to convince people to agree with "One Subject." Tens of millions of Americans would agree with the idea instantly, if ONLY they knew about it.
Discover the people who already agree. You know some of them, believe me you do. Tell them about the idea! Point out that . . .
 * It only takes a few keyboard strokes and mouse clicks to send a letter to Congress using our system
 * Tens of millions of Americans would want "One Subject," if only they knew about it, and . . .
 * If the tens of millions who like the idea would tell Congress they want it, then Congress would have to pass it
It isn't that we lack the tools to get what we want; it's that too many Americans fail to do the simple, easy things that would bring the changes they claim to desire. You can fix this . . .
 * Find the people who already agree with the "One Subject" idea
 * Ask them to send a letter to Congress
 * Follow-up to make sure they do it -- overcoming inertia is the main thing and that usually only takes a little persistence
Go get 'em.

NRA-ILA :: Mexican Police Chief Wants Armed Citizenry

NRA-ILA :: Mexican Police Chief Wants Armed Citizenry

The Police chief of Guerrero in Mexico wants the Federal Government to make it easier for CITIZENS to get a permit to carry a weapon. I would do him one better. Be like Kennesaw Georgia ,where it's required every house to have a weapon, crime in Kennesaw has dropped in recent years.
