Socialist, know any?
The term "socialist" has been flying around for about 3 to 4 years now. Some
people claim President Obama a socialist,a Muslim, unamerican. Some Muslims don't drink beer or any
alcohol..
Well let's look at the word "socialist".
1. a supporter or advocate of socialism or any party promoting socialism (
socialist party ).
Simple enough. Now the next question is ,"What is socialism?"
Socialism / is an economic system
characterised by social ownership and cooperative management of the means of
production,[1] and a political philosophy advocating such a system. "Social
ownership" may refer to cooperative enterprises, common ownership, direct public
ownership or autonomous state enterprises. But there many different definitions
of socialism.
And where did the word come from?
1827, from Fr. socialiste, in reference to the teachings of Comte de
Saint-Simon, founder of French socialism. The word begins to be used in French
in the modern sense c.1835. Socialista, with a different sense, was applied 18c.
to followers and pupils of Dutch jurist Grotius (1583-1645).And for some food
for thought?
Prison is a Socialist's Paradise, where equality prevails, everything is
supplied and competition is eliminated." [Elbert Hubbard, "The Note Book," 1927]
